I originally started back in the late 60's with a tour operator called Global of London before throwing it all up to be a Butlin's Redcoat and several other jobs in entertainments. I came back into travel with a small agency in Devon around 1978 and have remained in travel since then. Originally it was just a job, since then it has become a job I love and would rather do than any other office based work. It is the people and the enormous variety of places they choose to go that keep me interested. Over many years I have escorted groups of up to 250 people on tailor made itineraries to many far flung parts of the world, including Antarctica, China, South Africa, The Caribbean, Europe and many times to various parts of America. These trips have been on several ships, such as QE2, Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and several others.
Working for an independent agency, you get a far greater variety of holidays that people wish to do and not just the two weeks on a beach somewhere. When somebody walks into the office you never know what exciting destination or itinerary they are going to ask for, New York, New Zealand, Sumatra or Chile. This keeps the job interesting.
America is generally my favourite destination and the most frequent place I have visited, again because of the variety of different holidays it offers, wonderful city breaks, the great outdoors, skiing, coach tours or self drive.
The Canadian Rockies, I would like to drive down the spine of the Rockies from Jasper to Banff and then right across to Vancouver. The scenery, both lakes and mountains is beautiful.
Greenland, I just love going to very different places. I am no good on a beach.
