Main

Although few river cruises solely travel along the Main, the waterway is often explored as part of Rhine and Danube River cruises. As the Rhine continues south at Mainz, the Main River branches right and becomes a major tributary which flows across Germany. It is then connected to the Danube via the Main-Danube Canal, making it possible to travel all the way from Amsterdam to Budapest and on to the Black Sea if you wish.

Key stops along the Main include Frankfurt, home of the Museum Embankment and many impressive skyscrapers; Würzburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that features a large baroque palace; and Bamberg, where you can taste the traditional smoked beer produced in the town.
