Clare Ruffell, Manager of our Bournemouth travel agents in store at Beales, unearthed some ancient history on a trip to Italy recently. The tour is perfect for any fans of history or amazing vistas. Here’s what Clare had to say about her experience.
Destination: Pompeii,Paestum & Herculaneum
Operator/Host: Travelsphere
Airline: British Airways
Accommodation
(Hotel names/Ship name): Hotel Aequa
Duration: 7 nights
Flight
We flew economy and the flight left on time in both directions. It was a very comfortable, quick flight and the crew were really helpful.
Accommodation
The Hotel Aequa is situated in Vico Equense, a small, picturesque village that has breathtaking views.I had stunning views from my balcony of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius.
It is a small hotel with only 60 rooms and the location makes it very easy to get to Naples and Sorrento; the train station is a mere five minutes’ walk away. Also, you can walk three minutes in the other direction and be in the centre of the village where there are shops, bars, restaurants and a bank.
My room was very modern and up to date and had recently been refurbished. There are still some rooms which haven't been though, so be sure to book a superior room if you want an updated one. The hotel is four-star. The staff were lovely; very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I would really recommend it for its location and the stunning views.
What Was Included?
This was an archaeological tour, so these are the attractions and places we visited:
Excursions to Pozzuoli, Baia, Cumae, Pompeii, Amalfi, Paestum, Oplontis, Herculaneum and Naples. All entrance fees were included.
There are two optional excursions too; one to Capri and one to Mount Vesuvius, which you have to pay extra for.
Trip Highlights
My favourite part of the trip was driving down the Amalfi Coast on the winding cliff top road and seeing such wonderful views.
Recommendations
I would recommend this to travellers who are really interested in Archaeology. The tour manager was excellent and went above and beyond for the guests, and the tour guides were really knowledgeable on all of the sites we visited.
It is a must-see part of Italy; I have never seen such beautiful views.
